BOM File Format Requirements

Upload your Bill of Materials (BOM) to quickly get pricing and availability for all your components. Our BOM tool accepts several file formats and automatically matches your part numbers to our database.

Supported File Formats

  • CSV (.csv) - Recommended for best compatibility
  • Excel (.xlsx, .xls)
  • Tab-delimited text (.txt, .tsv)

Required Columns

Your BOM must include at least one of these identifiers:

Column Name Description Example
MPN Manufacturer Part Number STM32F407VGT6
Part Number Alternative column name LM358N
Quantity Number of units needed 100

Optional Columns

Include these for better matching and organization:

  • Manufacturer - Helps with exact matching
  • Description - Component description
  • Reference Designator - Board location (R1, C5, U3)
  • Package - Component package type
  • Value - Component value (10K, 100uF)
  • Internal Part Number - Your company's part number
  • Notes - Special requirements

Sample BOM Format

CSV Example

MPN,Manufacturer,Quantity,Description,Reference
STM32F407VGT6,STMicroelectronics,10,ARM Cortex-M4 MCU,U1
LM358N,Texas Instruments,50,Dual Op-Amp,U2-U3
RC0805FR-0710KL,Yageo,200,10K Ohm Resistor 0805,R1-R20
CC0805KRX7R9BB104,Yageo,150,100nF Capacitor 0805,C1-C15

Accepted Column Name Variations

Our system recognizes these common variations:

  • MPN, Part Number, PN, Part#, Manufacturer Part Number
  • Manufacturer, Mfr, MFG, Vendor
  • Quantity, Qty, QTY, Amount
  • Description, Desc, Part Description
  • Reference, RefDes, Designator

File Size Limits

  • Maximum file size: 10 MB
  • Maximum rows: 10,000 line items
  • Multiple files: Upload up to 5 BOMs at once

Best Practices

✅ Do's

  • • Include manufacturer names for accurate matching
  • • Use complete part numbers (not abbreviated)
  • • Include quantity for each line item
  • • Remove any header rows other than column names
  • • Save Excel files in .xlsx format

❌ Don'ts

  • • Don't include merged cells in Excel
  • • Don't use special characters in part numbers
  • • Don't include subtotals or formula rows
  • • Don't leave blank rows between data
  • • Don't password-protect the file

Uploading Your BOM

  1. Go to BOM Tool
  2. Click Upload BOM or drag and drop your file
  3. Map columns if automatic detection needs adjustment
  4. Review matched components
  5. Resolve any unmatched parts manually
  6. Add all items to cart or request a quote

Troubleshooting

Parts Not Matching?

  • Check for typos in part numbers
  • Try adding the manufacturer name
  • Remove any extra characters or spaces
  • Use the full part number including package suffix

Upload Errors?

  • Ensure file is not password protected
  • Check file size is under 10 MB
  • Save Excel files in .xlsx format
  • Remove any corrupted or merged cells
