Quickstart.
Your first API call in five minutes — install a client, add a key, search the catalog.
01
Install a client
Pick your entry point — the CLI, Homebrew, or the MCP server for AI assistants.

# Install the parts CLI (macOS / Linux) curl -fsSL https://source.parts/cli/install.sh | shcopy
02
Add your API key OPTIONAL
You can skip this — parts auth login generates a key for you automatically. Set one manually only for CI or server environments, from your dashboard.

03
Authenticate
Generates an API key automatically if you don't have one, and stores it in the system keychain — macOS Keychain, Linux Secret Service, or Windows Credential Manager.
$ parts auth logincopy04
Make your first request
Always send a descriptive User-Agent — the WAF rejects unknown agents.
curl "https://api.source.parts/v1/parts/search?q=ESP32&limit=10" \ -H "Authorization: Bearer $SOURCE_PARTS_API_KEY" \ -H "User-Agent: my-app/1.0 ([email protected])" # ...or the same search with the CLI: parts search "ESP32" --limit 10copy
